Mawddach Paddlesports Festival - Barmouth May 2012
This is a new festival of races for canoes, celtic longboats and rafted canoes. There will also be a Kayak sea-fishing competition, paddler development classes for novices to have a go, demonstrations of the
Teifi Coracle in action and other events. The opening ceremony will be introduced with a bang by Barmouth's very own
Batala Bermo.
- The event takes place upon the River Mawddach/Afon Mawddach - one of the most picturesque settings in the whole of the UK. This is the river which flows from Dolgellau down the estuary to run into the Irish Sea at Barmouth.
- The course itself will be based on the 10 km tidal stretch between Barmouth Harbour and Penmaenpool bridge (strategically located for refreshments beside the George III inn).
- The competitions will run over the week-end of 26th and 27th May 2012.
- Entries will be invited from individuals and teams, as appropriate. Entry details, an information pack, and a programme of events are available at
paddlewales.com .
- Kayaks are available for hire from Paddleworks at Bala (Competition organisers are currently in negotiations for the best deal for contestants so it might pay to wait.)
.
- The event is being staged in order to raise money for the Hope House Children's Hospice
Ty Gobaith and other local charities.
- It is organised by the Mawddach Rotary Club Trust - the local branch of the Rotary Club in Barmouth with the assistance of Canoe Wales/Canw Cymru and BCU Canoe Lifeguards .
- People wishing to volunteer help should contact "jonswain@talk21.com".
