THREE PEAKS YACHT RACE
Our short break
Barmouth holiday cottage provides the ideal accommodation for the yacht race.It has a grandstand view of the first 28 miles (45 km) of the race as it heads towards the Lleyn Peninsula and Caernarfon.
Race Timetable
- This annual sailing/running/cycling event has been running since 1977.
- Up to 25 teams compete in this arduous three stage race.
- Each team has 5 members, any 2 must complete each running stage
- The 3 running stages include the three highest mountains of Scotland (1342m), Wales (1084m) & England (978m).
- The 1st leg consists of 62 miles sailing (Barmouth/Caernarfon)and 24 miles running (Snowdon).
- 2nd leg consists of 100 miles sailing (Caernarfon/Whitehaven), 26 miles cycling, and 26 miles running (Scafell Pike).
- 3rd & final leg takes 227 miles of sailing (Whitehaven/Fort William) and 17 miles of running (Ben Nevis).
- The record time of 2 days 3 hours and 4 minutes for the race was set by a local Pwllheli team in 1998. At the other extreme, the slowest winning time of 5 Days 14 hrs and 4 minutes occurred two years later. race webcams
